- Description
Logic-level N-channel MOSFET designed for low-voltage gate drive applications. Fully enhanced with 5V gate voltage, making it ideal for direct interfacing with Arduino, ESP32, and other 3.3V/5V microcontrollers. High current capacity and low on-resistance enable efficient switching of motors, LED strips, solenoids, and other high-power loads.
Technical Specifications:
- Type: N-Channel Enhancement Mode MOSFET
- Package: TO-220 (3-pin through-hole)
- Drain-Source Voltage (VDS): 55V
- Continuous Drain Current (ID): 47A @ 25°C, 30A @ 100°C
- Pulsed Drain Current (IDM): 190A
- Gate-Source Voltage (VGS): ±16V max
- Threshold Voltage (VGS(th)): 1.0V - 2.0V (typical 1.3V)
- On-Resistance (RDS(on)): 0.022Ω @ VGS=10V, 0.028Ω @ VGS=5V
- Logic Level: Fully enhanced at 5V gate voltage
- Power Dissipation (PD): 94W @ 25°C (with heatsink)
- Operating Temperature: -55°C to +175°C
- Switching Speed: Fast (tr ~12ns, tf ~11ns)
Pin Configuration (viewed from front):
- Gate (G): Control input from microcontroller
- Drain (D): High-voltage/current connection (load positive)
- Source (S): Ground connection
Features:
- Logic-level compatible (works with 3.3V and 5V microcontrollers)
- Very low on-resistance for minimal heat and voltage drop
- High current handling (47A continuous)
- Fast switching for PWM applications
- No heatsink needed for loads <10A (with adequate airflow)
- Avalanche rated for inductive load protection
Applications:
- DC motor control (up to 30A+)
- High-power LED strip dimming (12V/24V)
- Solenoid and relay driving
- Heating element control
- Electric bike/scooter controllers
- 3D printer heated bed control
- High-side switching with P-channel driver
- Arduino/ESP32 PWM motor control
- Battery disconnect circuits
Typical Circuit:
- Gate → GPIO pin (via 100-220Ω resistor recommended)
- Gate → 10kΩ pull-down resistor to GND (prevents floating)
- Drain → Load positive terminal
- Source → GND
- Load negative → Power supply positive
Important Notes:
- Add 10kΩ pull-down resistor from gate to ground to prevent accidental turn-on
- Use 100-220Ω gate resistor to limit current and reduce ringing
- Add flyback diode (1N4007 or similar) across inductive loads (motors, solenoids)
- Heatsink recommended for continuous currents >10A or high-frequency PWM
- Cannot switch AC loads (DC only)
Advantages:
- Works directly with 5V/3.3V logic (no driver IC needed)
- Much better than standard MOSFETs (IRF540 requires 10V+ gate voltage)
- Low heat generation due to very low RDS(on)
Compatible with Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, and any 3.3V/5V microcontroller GPIO. Perfect replacement for mechanical relays in DC switching applications.
